So being a relatively new dad I've taken up to doing a ton of research on products. Like every other
parent, I need to know which products works best for our baby's needs.
Holy crap, did that open up a whole new can of worms for me! I went from forward facing car seats to cancer causing agents in flame retardant chemicals used in baby products in less than 20 clicks. Damn that Fran Drescher!
Earlier today I went into hyper panic mode cleaning the kitchen floor. Friends were coming over for home made pizza and since we have white tile in the kitchen and a 13 month old, I took out the mop and the Pine Sol and that's when the panic started. My baby walks on this floor, she picks things up and puts them in her mouth, her hands, food, toys are in touch with these chemicals, my God, I am killing my baby! Nuts.
Joe was out shopping so I texted him:
Me: Please pick up a "green" all purpose cleaning product.
Joe: I just bought some stuff it should be the laundry room closet.
Me: We are no longer using those poisons you should read the chemical compounds that our daughter is putting into her body!
Joe: Breathe. People have been using these products for decades and their babies have grown up just fine.
Me: And for the ones that didn't?
Joe: You're an idiot!
Me: I am emailing you a coupon that I just Googled.
I winded up mopping the floor with white vinegar and water. Then rinsed it again with just water. Poop, we have well water, so I rinsed it again with filtered water that I boiled.
Pine Sol does clean better, but when that piece of cheese hit the floor and my little girl grabbed it, I indigently said to our guests "there are no chemicals on that piece of cheese tonight."
Then I started to get that crazy feeling again. Uh oh, where's that freakin' cheese label!
So true! I just switched to "green" cleaner too, because obviously, the cleaner that my mom used when I was a baby was horrible and damaged me in some way that I'm sure I'll find out about later.
ReplyDeleteHi, Leslie! Absolutely. I even stopped buying her flame retardant clothing too. I am sure I am a little nuts right now, but heck, rather be proactive than up at night worrying...ya know!
